NC Republican Proposes Unhinged Anti-Abortion Bill to Legalize Deadly Force Against Providers and Advocates

WASHINGTON — GOP anti-abortion extremism is reaching new heights in North Carolina after legislation was introduced that would amend the state constitution to classify abortion as homicide and allow for the use of deadly force against abortion providers and friends and family who aid in abortion access. This bill would not only legalize the use of deadly force in defense of a fertilized egg, but could also block access to IVF and certain methods of contraception. While families struggle under skyrocketing costs, Republicans are unwavering in their extremism.

Though this bill has slim odds of becoming law – thanks in part to the DLCC’s work last cycle to break the House GOP supermajority – Republicans continue to intensify attacks on reproductive care, as over a dozen GOP states considered bills to punish abortion patients as murderers last year alone. North Carolina is on the DLCC’s historic 2026 Target Map to expand Democrats’ power to block the GOP’s dangerous agenda that’s reducing access to health care and raising costs.

“As costs skyrocket, North Carolina Republicans refuse to address the affordability crisis and instead are turning up the heat on their dangerous crusade against reproductive health care. Classifying patients seeking abortion as murderers and legalizing deadly force against providers, family, and friends who assist with abortion care is wildly extreme and out of step with voters. As the Republican Party adopts these fringe policies that encourage violence and make it harder for families to access the care they need, voters are ready to hold Republicans accountable in November. North Carolina is on DLCC’s historic 2026 Target Map to build Democratic power and ensure dangerous legislation like this never sees the light of day.”

How do men still think they can decide what a woman does with her body?

Why can't women tell men what to do with their bodies. Sounds ridiculous doesn't it!

Bad bill alert: last week, Republican lawmakers in the North Carolina state legislature filed a bill that would legally authorize the murder of anyone involved in providing an abortion.
