Federal judge Tom Ludington (R) back in trouble in 'super drunk' scandal
U.S. District Judge Thomas Ludington is back in trouble less than three weeks after being sentenced for drunk driving, this time for allegedly failing to submit to twice-weekly alcohol and drug tests as part of his probation.
Ludington failed to undergo a screening for drugs and failed to undergo alcohol testing during the first week of probation May 13-20, according to a request and summons filed in 90th District Court in Petoskey. The alleged violations could lead to Ludington being jailed for three months or ordered to undergo treatment, legal experts told The Detroit News.
90th District Judge Angela Lasher ordered Ludington to return to court June 8 for a probation violation arraignment. If he doesn't attend, Ludington could be arrested.
The alleged probation violations ― first reported by Bloomberg Law ― are emerging at a delicate time and amid questions about whether Ludington drank alcohol while on the job. Ludington, 72, took voluntary paid leave from his $249,900-a-year lifetime appointment in February after The News revealed his arrest.
