Stand Up for Science!!! Help stop Vought's dystopian grant process changes.

May 29 Vought's OMB released over 400 pages of regulatory changes usurping congressional authority with changes that apply to all grants, not just NIH and NSF. Within those pages:

Grants must align with the felon's priorities, not agency mission set forth by congress.

Right to cancel any grant at will.

Strip peer review authority.

Trumpublican hacks empowered to make all decisions.

Effectively end international collaboration

This is staggering. All agency grant funds are being turned into a slush fund to advance private interests, NOT the public interest.

Trump/Vought & OMB need to be SWAMPED with public comments against their proposed policy allowing political meddling & control of scientific research funding to force it to "conform" to a President's agenda. Their claim is that federal dollars were used for "DEI," drag shows, and studies on transgender mice (none of that is true).

Example comment:

I urge you to carefully consider the impact of this proposed regulation.

US federal research funding makes scientific and medical breakthroughs possible and improves the lives of all Americans. This rule will hinder innovation and stifle growth, pushing us ever further behind other countries in scientific advancements. It's another attack on scientific integrity and scientific independence that will come at the public's expense.

Research funding should be awarded based on merit (not political loyalty); that funding shouldn't be contingent on the whims of a President and his "priorities" at the expense of innovation and the public good; and that funding shouldn’t be withheld from individual researchers, organizations, and institutions because their work is associated with one of the administration’s "prohibited topics."

4. I'm working on mine, but a key point will be that these rules transform grant money into a giant slush fund.

Roughly 170 billion of our tax dollars are awarded in grants that serve the public interest in accord with the applicable congressional mandate. To ensure this, the grants are awarded in a competitive process that involves peer review and expert advisory panel oversight.

The regulatory changes issued May 29 transform that 170 billion dollars into a slush fund ten times the size of the corrupt so-called "anti-weaponization" fund. Instead of peer review and expert advisory panels to ensure the public interest is served, decision-making is handed to political appointees. Instead of being awarded in accord with the applicable congressional mandate, awards are to be made in the service of the radical right agenda of the Trump administration.

These rules are effectively a declaration of intent of by a small group to loot public money to advance their radical agenda and advance the private interests of Trump's allies.

The damage to United States' standing at the cutting edge of research in countless areas, the damage to the economic powerhouse publicly-funded research drives, and the damage to our public health, our safety, and wellbeing is incalculable.

These rules must not go into effect. And similar rules already in effect at NIH and NSF must be revoked or overruled by congressional action.

Too much unchecked power. He's flying under the radar with a titanium weed eater cutting our government out at the knees before the end of the year. This evil fuck must be stopped.

...this effort to create a new sort of slush fund? This one worth around 170 billion.

See post 4 above.
