Facebook Outage Right Now

FB is down. Not loading. I'm seeing a screen that pulses but doesn't load.

Outage reporting websites are also sayin it's down.

Meta is short of Deta, apparently.

I was actually trying to do that when I discovered the outage. I was logged out (which never happens), and it wouldn't let me log back in. So, as an alternative, I went to facebook to access messenger via facebook on my computer.

It appears that facebook is back, but messenger (what I really needed) is still out.

It is amazing how fast an hour can go by when you are just scrolling through meaningless crap.

I wish there was a good alternative to the platform. When it started out, it was a relatively positive experience. Now it is full of AI slop and scams from primarily 3rd world countries.

It tends to make you feel like it is educational, which of course it often is. What I like best is interacting with intelligent, well-informed people. There is a wealth of experience and knowledge to draw upon.

And best of all, I meet really compassionate and caring people here.

They/we have managed to keep the nuttiness and troll activities under control. So many online groups haven't been able to do that.

I don't even have that many active Facebook friends anymore. When I don't see posts from them for a long time, I rather assume they don't visit Facebook anymore. What the f*ck kind of algorithm are they using anyway?

I would just give it up, but that is where I interact with some friends and family. Sadly, that is also where I often find out that someone has passed away.

... ignoring them. My brother, especially. He was a hardcore socialist who got lucky with the California real estate market boom bust cycles and made almost a million on the house he got for a song and dance in San Diego. Now he hates children and has no problem letting EVERYBODY know how ignorant we all are. He was lucky he had an ex-wife who bought the house and quit claimed it to get away from him.

His latest wife, however, is just a nice person who's fun to talk to.

how dramatically some people change, especially when they come into funny*. Even more dramatic when that person is a close family member.

*Edit - should have said "come into money". I have no idea where "funny" came from.

Fortunately I've been able to keep him on the level of amusement just short of irritation.

I wonder if SEC and exchanges monitor the various social media for trading collusion? I mean there's a lot to keep an eye on. Signal, FB, Discord, Reddit, What's App ......

I can reach my profile page, but not my feed.

Also, Marketplace shows not items in my area. something's definitely not right.

On the upside, I can click Reels and watch inane videos as much as I wish.
