Let's face it, here in the South there are just a few issues distinguishing a Democrat from a Republican. Half the time, it's only the D or the R after their name.
I voted for Senator Richard Shelby (D) years ago. After he won, he switched to (R) 3 days later. And has stomped every Democratic candidate I voted for since then.
Our candidates have to get elected. A Nancy Pelosi liberal won't get elected. In fact, we got tea bagger Martha Roby representing us because Bobby Bright (D) made one vote in his caucus - Pelosi for Speaker. In every other vote Bright was straight Republican. And Roby nailed him on supporting Pelosi! It was really all she had!
Now, I can see not voting straight Democratic ticket. Bobby Bright was so bad, many Democrats left a blank for that office (and Roby won). But if you know you are going to get Republican when you vote for the Democrat, nobody is representing you anyway so it doesn't matter. You can argue having Blue Dogs and DINOs still can give us Democratic majority in Washington, but if they side with the Republicans on every issue, it is not a Democratic majority at all. Look how every Democratic issue was watered down last time we had a Democratic majority.
I would urge everyone to consider what the candidate stands for. Griffith is firmly committed to expanding Medicaid. Bentley will not. Griffith is right. Bentley is wrong.
