First let me say Happy Valentine's Day, and thank you for the hearts! 
This year's Hearts Fund Drive ends on Sunday night, and we very much appreciate your support.
It seems that in these dark times, independent sites like DU, which sit outside the big-corporation social media/mainstream media bubble, are more important than ever. We may not have the influence and reach of big social media, but there's no other community like DU out there. We do our best to keep people informed and connected WITHOUT vacuuming up every piece of your personal information we can get our hands on, and we don't screw around with AI or algorithms designed to addict you -- this is a community run by real human beings, for real human beings.
As you know, DU is funded solely by web advertising and member contributions, and we rely on your support to keep running. Many of you have already purchased or renewed Star Memberships this week, and we greatly appreciate it. If you have not yet done so, or if you would like to make an additional contribution (and get some more hearts to give out before the end of the Fund Drive), you can:

Pleasant fund drive around, lasts just long enough and helps us all reflect on how we interact with each other... and that's really important right now. And some gratification on a various levels too.
People feel good! I love the way that DU allows for small contributions so people on limited budgets can donate occasionally and also the giving/receiving of hearts makes people feel good!
Because this needs to be kicked!
