LOS ANGELES (AP) Democrat Adam Gray captured Californias 13th Congressional District on Tuesday, unseating Republican Rep. John Duarte in the final U.S. House contest to be decided this year.
Grays win in the farm belt seat that cuts through five counties means Republicans won 220 House seats this election cycle, with Democrats holding 215 seats. Gray won by a margin of less than 200 votes, with election officials reporting Tuesday all ballots had been counted.
Duarte captured the seat in 2022 when he defeated Gray by one of the closest margins in the country, 564 votes. He was often listed among the most vulnerable House Republicans given that narrow margin of victory in a district with a Democratic tilt about 11 points over registered Republicans.
Gray said in a statement: We always knew that this race would be as close as they come, and were expecting a photo finish this year, too.

(248 posts)To make matters worse for House Republicans, Trump has selected Reps. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) and Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) as his national security advisor and ambassador to the United Nations, respectively.
Both of their seats, along with that of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who resigned in pursuit of a short-lived nomination for attorney general and said he will not retake his seat in January, won't be filled until the Spring.
While Waltz doesn't plan to resign until Jan. 20, Johnson will still be left with a 217-215 majority for some of the key first months of Trump's term.
and there's this that I don't know enough to comment on:

Just ball-parking on it but from the above, I'm seeing 4 Districts that the GOP won (based on AP counts) by 1% or less -
Pennsylvania 7 » Mackenzie +1%
Colorado 8 » Evans +(less than) 1%
Iowa 1 » Miller-Meeks +(less than) 1%
