Evacuate if you are at 100 feet or lower.

(30,021 posts)I just talked to my "son from another mother" as he's working in San Francisco. He didn't even feel it. I don't know how close he is to where the tsunami may be coming and was frantic to reach him.
Now I have to call my friend even further north and make sure she's okay.
earthquakes are terrifying. Born and raised in LA so I've been through some. Stay safe!!
ETA he just texted me the tsunami warning was canceled according to Apple News

(3,983 posts)In Eureka, CA. We love the Pacific NW and have spent the last 10+ years in the month July exploring from Seattle south to San Francisco. Ive surfed in Oregon and weve visited Ferndale, my wife lives the Victorian Style homes. We also drove to Shelter Cove on the Lost Coast. Beautiful. A resident told me he lost count of the number of earthquakes.
We had just arrived at the hotel in Eureka when we heard what sounded like a bolt of lightning followed by a shudder. I looked it up and it was a 4.5.
Love the area and hope there was no damage to property or people.

(9,282 posts)After a 7.0 quake slammed into Humboldt County and surrounding areas at 10:44 this morning and, as of this posting, 58 aftershocks (larger that 2.5 with the largest magnitude 4.7) followed, the damage, though painful for many residents and businesses, was surprisingly limited given the quakes magnitude.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported and power is on to most PG&E customers.
However, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency not only for Humboldt County but also for Del Norte and Mendocino Counties
