The signs of shrapnel in the tail would have most likely knocked out the hydraulics leaving very little control left to the plane other then throttles.

this looks very much like a shootdown by a short range missile with a proximity fuse. Best guess for now…

They've shot down their own military aircraft by accident in the past, too.

The S300 and the personnel trained to operate them have proven very effective at shooting down the wrong things.

And apparently a Ukrainian drone attack near Grozny was happening then.

The patterns on the tail are consistent with an anti-aircraft missile.
This was an intentional shoot down- although it may have been mistaken for a Ukrainian aircraft. The Russians should be held legally accountable, and all international air traffic to and from Russia should be banned.
