A passenger plane carrying 181 people crashed while landing in an airport in southwestern South Korea on Sunday, killing at least 47 people, officials said. The plane, operated by South Koreas Jeju Air, was landing in Muan International Airport when it veered off the runway, local fire department officials said.
Forty-seven people were found dead in the plane crash so far, said Kang Won-sik, a spokesman for the National Fire Agency.
Two people, both crew members, had been rescued, he said. Rescuers were searching for the remaining 132 people, Mr. Kang said.

(36,333 posts)You're moving that fast and hit a large-ish bird and the structure takes damage.
If it hits in the wrong place, bad things can happen. A bird going into a turbine ... Not good for avian or machine.
