Former President Barack Obama wrote a heartfelt statement praising Jimmy Carter following the 39th presidents death at the age of 100. Carters death was announced by his son on Sunday afternoon after being on hospice care for over a year. The former president who served one-term in office was known his diplomatic and humanitarian work.
For decades, you could walk into Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia on some Sunday mornings and see hundreds of tourists from around the world crammed into the pews, Obama wrote. And standing in front of them, asking with a wink if there were any visitors that morning, would be President Jimmy Carter preparing to teach Sunday school, just like he had done for most of his adult life.
Obama then praised Carter for his accomplishments while serving in the White House including the Camp David Accords and the nominating Ruther Bader Ginsburg to the federal bench.
Some who came to hear him speak were undoubtedly there because of what President Carter accomplished in his four years in the White House the Camp David Accords he brokered that reshaped the Middle East; the work he did to diversify the federal judiciary, including nominating a pioneering womens rights activist and lawyer named Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the federal bench; the environmental reforms he put in place, becoming one of the first leaders in the world to recognize the problem of climate change, he added. Obama also honored Carter by mentioning the former presidents decency before offering his thoughts and prayers to Carters family.

(3,271 posts)Theres been nothing one way or the other from Cantaloupe Caligula.
While my original comment was obviously sarcastic, I really dont expect him to stay politely quiet - much less say anything nice. Cantaloupe Caligula just isnt capable of it. And there is really no doubt in my mind hell turn whatever comment he does make, a rant thats al about him.

Melania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter Family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We urge everyone to keep them in their hearts and prayers."

(I haven't posted the rest of Reuters' mess... at least yet... They need to do some big corrections like calling Shrub "Former President" like they did for Clinton when excerpting his quote (instead of calling him "President" as if he is a current one) and they need to include Obama's remarks as well that were done last night, where he has suddenly become a forgotten "Former President" ).

(1,601 posts)... was a truly decent man who, knowing full well the risks of doing so, nevertheless waded into the viper-infested swamp that is Washington, D.C., to do what he could to better the lives of Americans. The vipers succeeded in denying him a second term, but he made an indelible, and admirable, mark just the same.
Few people and NO Republicans will ever match his generosity of spirit.
