Meta is ending its fact-checking program in favor of a 'community notes' system similar to X

Meta is scrapping its fact-checking program with trusted partners and replacing it with a community-driven system similar to X’s Community Notes, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday.

The change will affect Facebook and Instagram, two of the largest social media platforms in the world, each boasting billions of users, as well as Threads.

"We're gonna get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms," Zuckerberg said in a video. "More specifically, here's what we're going to do. First, we're going to get rid of fact checkers and replace them with community notes similar to X, starting in the U.S."

Zuckerberg pointed to the election as a major influence on the company's decision, and criticized "governments and legacy media" for allegedly pushing "to censor more and more."

14. I've never trusted Facebook - from the beginning. I never joined.

And Facebook has never disappointed me. They've never been trustworthy.

Their lack or privacy - and the release of massive amounts of private information several times.

Cambridge Analytica - that should've been enough to lose most of their clients - but that wasn't enough.

Not protecting clients from America's enemies during elections.

If Facebook said we're going to come to your house and shoot you and your family - would that be enough for people to leave?

It is sad when it appears one can never be rich enough. It is also sad that Mark Zuckerberg is a follower and not a leader. He just does what is popular at the moment. "Free expression" should not mean people are allowed to lie. Preventing people from lying and/or exposing the lies of individuals is not censoring.
