'Sheep for hire': Trump, Musk and Zuckerberg's dangerous plan for Europe
Source: France 24
The European Union has long been one of the safest digital spaces for internet users. But that was before Donald Trumps imminent return to the White House and before two of today's tech titans Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg were essentially handed carte blanche to declare war on the EUs digital defences. Some say the trio has even more sinister plans in the making.
Barely two weeks ahead of Trumps inauguration, Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Facebook parent company Meta, threw down the gauntlet.
Were seeing an ever-increasing number of laws institutionalising censorship, he railed in a five-minute video posted across social media on January 7. And we're going to work with President Trump to push back on governments around the world that are going after American businesses."
His statement was a veiled threat directed at the EU, where increasingly stringent digital laws have already cost his interests more than a billion dollars in fines over the past few years.

This is a very lengthy read but worth the time to understand the European take on the incoming administration.

(2,188 posts)Don't let the oligarchs take over Europe. Without the competition from Meta, they can start their own. Maybe the new ones will take off and come over here, appealing to the non-fascist crowd.
New apps designed to avoid the pitfalls of the current apps, now that we understand the threat.

(173 posts)The tighter government regulation on industries in the EU. Some regulation which takes PEOPLE more into account than shareholders or corporations.
I am sure that Zuck and Muskrat are unnerved with the General Data Protection Regulation which means that people can opt out of having their personal data taken. This cuts into their profits that they get from selling people's data. The GDPR also is in effect even if a site is not in the EU. There are very heavy fines for violations. They are not fooling around.
I think that the Felon-In-Chief is getting his orders from his "donors."
