Trump says first call with Mark Carney was 'productive,' leaders 'agree on many things'

Source: CBC Canadian Broadcasting Corp

"I just finished speaking with Prime Minister Mark Carney," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social in which he said the two leaders "agree on many things."

"It was an extremely productive call, we agree on many things and will be meeting immediately after Canada's upcoming election to work on elements of politics, business and other factors that will end up being great for both the United States of America and Canada," Trump wrote.

The U.S. president's announcement that the two leaders will meet after Canada goes to the polls suggests Trump has decided that Carney will still be prime minister after April 28, despite voting day remaining a month away.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) confirmed the call took place and said it would be sending out a readout of the conversation shortly.

Carney insisted on respect and we see tRump calling him Prime Minister and not the provocative term he's used in the past.

I await the readout with interest.

I don't think Canada will invite DunceOld to Ottawa and I don't think PM Dr. Carney (PhD economics) will go to Washington, but he is smart and practical, so he might go if invited if he sees ways to strengthen Canada by doing so.

I expect that if he gave anything to tRump it was the understanding that Canada is strong and determined, and maybe gave him some kind of symbolic sop.

Who knows, you might be right, but I don't think so. The PMO has said there will be a Canadian readout on the call soon.

I thought more highly of Carney than kissing Trump ass.

We shall see. I would love to be wrong.

Is that the kind of support you offer Canada? Slandering and sabotaging the Prime Minister claiming he kissed Carney's ass, not even on any say-so or evidence, just your supposition simply because tRump is projecting happiness for public relations whether or not he is actually happy.

You believed tRump and took him at his word.

No thanks.

Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, spoke with the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. The Prime Minister and the President had a very constructive conversation about the relationship between our two countries.

The leaders agreed to begin comprehensive negotiations about a new economic and security relationship immediately following the election. In the interim, the leaders agreed that conversations between the Minister of International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada, Dominic LeBlanc, and the United States Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, will intensify to address immediate concerns.

The Prime Minister told the President that he would be working hard for the next month to earn the right to represent Canada in those discussions.

The Prime Minister informed the President that his government will implement retaliatory tariffs to protect Canadian workers and our economy, following the announcement of additional U.S. trade actions on April 2, 2025.
