Canadian Lawmaker Spots 'Something Deeper' Brewing Amid Trump's Trade War

Source: msn

Story by Ben Blanchet • 5h

Canadian lawmaker Charlie Angus................

Angus, when asked by Ben Meiselas of the MeidasTouch Network if Trump is “scared” by how Canada and the EU have responded to his plans of further tariffs, spotted “something deeper” brewing in America that Canadians are focused on: “watching our nearest neighbor slip into totalitarianism.”

“When we see people being pulled off the streets, when we see people at universities being grabbed, detained, rendered and kidnapped, and when we see Kristi Noem doing this really disgusting video in front of half-naked men in an overcrowded El Salvadorian prison cell,” Angus said.

“We’re looking at a nation that we don’t understand anymore and we don’t want to be like that nation and we’re thinking, ‘If we go down the road with this regime, we’re talking about the disappearance of the rule of law.’”

Angus — a fierce critic of the U.S. president — argued that if America can’t respect the “rule of law” of its citizens then how could people expect the country to respect international law.

“And it certainly doesn’t respect us as Canada,” he added.

It must be extremely frightening to look in and see and know what is happening to your formerly neighborly neighbor and be helpless to do anything about it.

Nor do the majority have a shred of critical thinking skills. They are tuned primarily into entertainment and sports news, fashion and makeup trends, etc. and only "see" their algorithmically created bubble on social media: primarily friends, influencers, and celebrities they follow.

Ask them where they get their news? They will tell you they get all they need to know from influencers they follow on TikTok. Politics? They say they don't concern themselves with that. It's not something they care about. Too depressing. Seriously.

This is the reality created for them by the TechBros who created and manipulate social media technology. So, they are absolutely not connected to EVERYTHING, only to a limited bubble of their own shallow creation. By design. They do not think deeply about much of anything. They serve their purpose as consumers.

How do I know this? I try to teach them how to use critical thinking. These are things they tell me. It ain't easy. I reach a few, but I know it's only a small dent. And now many use AI to do their homework for them, so who knows how much they are actually learning. THAT is the grim and depressing reality of what I'd say is the majority of the youngest of our younger generations, the ones who have never known a world without social media. It IS their limited reality.

"Boomers" are not the most loyal Republican voting segment. Where did that myth come from? Yes, older people from every generation skew Republican. Know why? Because rich white people live longer and rich white people tend to vote Republican.

Not sure who said it but basically it was - we can't sit around waiting for voters in Wisconsin to determine Europe's future security.

Americans are ignorant as to how NATO has protected us.

CPB is forcing travelers entering the US to unlock their phones and computers so agents can read their social media posts, messages, and email to find comments critical of Trump. If you’re a foreign traveler, you are denied entry. But what happens if you’re a US citizen? How long before the CPB goes after citizens critical of Trump? The first citizen targets re-entering the US are likely to be minorities and those with Hispanic or unusual names that to ICE would look un-American since “real” Americans only have white names like John Smith or Mary Edwards.

A recent article described how travelers to the US should backup their files and delete all messages, social media posts, email, and searches that are critical of Trump before traveling to the US. The writer recommended not deleting other messages or using a burner phone because that would arouse suspicion. We are in crazy new territory here where no one is safe.

... that we find ourselves at the mercy of a petulant child whose overinflated ego is so fragile, and his mindset so pitifully transactional, that he thinks it's perfectly reasonable to demand that a governor say nice things about him on Sunday morning blather shows in exchange for federal disaster assistance. And he's pushing the limits to see what he can get away with when he orders his goons to detain legal permanent residents who don't toe the approved political line, or who just have some tattoos, and threatens the funding of universities over his obscenely bigoted DEI edicts.
As distressing as his performative politics are, what's more distressing by several orders of magnitude is the undeniable fact that Trump is just the Court Jester, distracting attention away from what his REALLY evil puppeteers are up to. The Heritage Foundation is a domestic terrorist organization, and you'd better be watching those fuckers like a mouse trying to escape the talons of a hawk.
If you read the Project 2025 – only a little at a time, or your blood pressure will blow the top of your head off – you'll start to get an inkling of what absolute monsters these people really are. They all have more money than they could spend in 20 lifetimes, but they still want yours, and total dominion over your life while they're at it. And they are NEVER satisfied.

then add monopoly thoughts from the 1900s (the railroads across America).
Then, this freedom of speech “restrictions” , yes there is a right to be concerned. The Canadian points it out well.
I have not read the Project 25. I read with critical thought of others comment. What I have picked up on is pre 19th Amendment for many, then pre 1865 for all of us.
Time to reverse Citizens United or something like that or let us get back to “ . of the people, by the people, and for the people . . “.
No where does it say billionaires or corporations! ! !

I'd caveat that though. I don't understand PARTS of this nation. My part? I understand. We haven't changed. California, Oregon, Washington, Maryland, Hawaii? Still under rule of law. The "red' parts? Absolutely not.

Though I agree with Angus on the surface, they need to understand, this is a tale of two Americas. The Blue parts didn't do this. Nor are we going to stand for it one way or another.

But Charlie Angus is an outspoken Hamas supporter. It’s a bit rich of him to call out people being pulled off the streets in America while celebrating people being murdered in their homes by Hamas.

I can show you him condemning the crimes of Hamas:

History was made tonight.
Parliament voted for an immediate ceasefire,
and end to arms funding to Israel,
a denunciation of the crimes of Hamas and Israel, calling out settlers violence,
a return of the hostages
and work towards recognition of Palestinian state.
Thanks to #NDP

I feel it’s so important for Americans to hear these comments from our old allies. It carries weight and comes from outside the chaotic bubble we are in. Important reality assessment.
Oh Canada, we are so sorry.
