House votes to defy Mike Johnson in painful blow

Source: Axios

The House voted Tuesday to defy House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and force a vote on allowing members who are new parents to vote by proxy for three months.

Why it matters: It's a brutal loss for Johnson, who poured considerable political capital into trying to snuff out Rep. Anna Paulina Luna's (R-Fla.) efforts.

Luna launched what is called a discharge petition, which can force a vote on any measure without the support of leadership if 218 House members sign on.

Luna got the signatures — including a dozen Republicans — and the vote will have to happen by the end of the week.

They’ll gleefully squander YOUR money, but it’s so much more fitting when they squander their own.

As far as I know the only mass Covid infection (in DC) happened when Chump had that outdoor reception to introduce Amy Coney Barrett as the new Scotus justice nominee to replace Ruth Bader Ginsberg. It was all Repukes at the reception and most were without masks. At least 7 or 8 got Covid that day, and it happened before the vaccinations were ready to be distributed.

After that event, everyone was in favor of Zoom meetings and emailed or phone-in votes.

House cancels rest of votes for week after GOP floor rebellion (The Hill)

House Republican leaders on Tuesday canceled votes for the rest of the week after a band of GOP lawmakers staged a rebellion on the floor, bringing legislative action to a screeching halt.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) informed lawmakers the next vote in the House would be Monday evening.
