Nancy Pelosi predicts Dems win House gavel back in '26, reflects on career and Jan. 6 attack

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi is confident that Democrats will re-take the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterms and that Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will hold the speaker’s gavel.

“Hakeem Jeffries is ready, he's eloquent, he's respected by the members, he is a unifier,” Pelosi told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl during a new interview that aired Sunday on “This Week.”

“You have no doubt it'll be Hakeem Jeffries?” Karl asked. “None,” Pelosi said.

The California Democrat, who stepped down from the party’s House leadership in November 2022, announced in November that she would not run for reelection in 2026. With about year left in her term, the longtime Democratic leader and first female speaker of the House spoke to Karl in Washington about her career, her relationship with President Donald Trump, and offered advice for Democrats going forward.

2. You still need someone experienced and knows the parliamentary procedures

and Rules, and who can maneuver through and around the obstacles, both from without and within.

He knows how to do "wartime" but has chosen not to rock that boat... at least yet.

3. You confuse the title consigliari

Leader Jefferies is the Leader, the consigliari is the trusted council. There are plenty of logical choices for consigliari. Jim McGovern would be one such logical choice. He has been the rules committee chairman, and is now the ranking member a long serving member of the house, a liberal, a progressive, a pragmatist, a realist, a true student of the house.

The leader is not always the most knowledgeable of house procedure, but is the one that has his or her finger on the pulse of the Democratic Caucus with the ability to cc make difficult decisions and choices.

4. IF...Trump and his politburo doesn't fuck with the election

I've read things here and there...

1. The US invades Venezuela and Repubs try to delay, defer or cancel the 2026 and 2028 elections because "we're at war and a change of leadership is detrimental to US security". Yes, this is bullshit. But they can cause a lot of trouble and election interference.
2. Legislatures or secretaries of state in red states "find" or fabricate excuses to not certify elections in house races where Dems have won.
3. Repubs locate small numbers of fraudulent votes cast in an election where a Dem won and use that as leverage to void the whole election.
4. Red states perform massive voter roll purges just in advance of an election causing Dem votes to be diluted.

I believe that Repubs are planning wide-ranging chaos in electoral processes nationwide to tip the tables in their favor.
