US May 'Reexamine' Relationship With NATO

Source: Newsweek

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the U.S. may "reexamine" its role in NATO after several European countries limited U.S. military access to bases and airspace for strikes on Iran.

Italy blocked U.S. bombers bound for the Middle East from landing at one of its bases in recent days, while President Donald Trump lambasted France, accusing Paris of closing its airspace to planes carrying weapons to Israel. Israel said on Tuesday it was cutting off all defense purchases from France.

Spain, one of NATO's harshest critics of the Iran war, shuttered its airspace to all U.S. military flights after confirming it had barred Washington from using two jointly-operated airbases in southern Spain for attacks on Iran. European bases are often used as stop-over points for U.S. aircraft en route to the Middle East. Losing access to these facilities could force American aircraft to make longer journeys or change logistics arrangements that underpin all missions in the region.

"If, now, we have reached a point where the NATO alliance means we can't use those bases...to defend America's interests, then NATO is a one-way street," Rubio told Fox News host Sean Hannity.

There is no "re-evaluating". Congress passed a law in 2023 forbidding a President from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO -

He's a madman suffering from power psychosis, and all world leaders know it. The longer he stays in office, the longer it will take to repair the damage.

8. If I was a betting person, the jackass will unilaterally leave NATO, just like he did with the Iran Nuclear Deal under

the Obama Administration, instead of trying to build on that deal.

He is a deviant, power hunger megalomaniac.

Trump keeps saying he is talking to Iran, except it seems those who are currently in control of Iran are calling hogwash on that, and yet our illustrious media this and him as something "normal".

The damage trump and the republicans are doing to our country is obscene.

Start a war without consulting our allies and then pretend they are somehow to blame for his piss-poor decisions.

Handy.

... that was Rubio's baby! From the linked article...

The measure, spearheaded by Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), was included in the annual National Defense Authorization Act
...
Rubio said the measure served as a critical tool for congressional oversight.

“We must ensure we are protecting our national interests and protecting the security of our democratic allies,” he said in a statement.
