John Deere offers UAW workers 2-year contract extension

[MOLINE, Ill.] — John Deere has proposed a two-year extension to its collective bargaining agreement with the United Auto Workers union, which would push the contract's expiration from fall 2027 to 2029.

The company cited declining demand for agricultural equipment and an uncertain economic outlook as reasons for seeking the extension now. John Deere said the proposal aims to provide stability for employees, the business and customers during a period of economic volatility.

The extension would preserve all terms of the current agreement, including healthcare coverage, cost-of-living adjustments and pension benefits. It would also include additional compensation for employees and their families.

John Deere has requested a decision on the extension offer by midnight Aug. 31. If the UAW does not accept the extension, both sides would need to negotiate a new agreement when the current contract expires in fall 2027.
