Negotiations to avert a shutdown sputter as disputes over DOGE cuts persist

(NBC News) WASHINGTON — Congress is careening toward a government shutdown in just 11 days as the discord between the two parties over funding talks grows, with no clear path to reach a deal.

The government is set to run out of money at the end of next Friday, March 14. Republicans control the House and the Senate, but they need Democratic support to pass a funding bill as it is subject to the Senate's 60-vote threshold.

Hopes of a full funding deal have faded, so President Donald Trump and congressional leaders are falling back on a short-term bill to keep the government open on autopilot, most likely through the end of the fiscal year. But even that is running into obstacles.

How can Congress pass a budget when the application of funds will either be cut by DOGE or "re-invested" somewhere else? Example: The Budget has an allocation to the Dept. of Education. What if that department no longer exists in three months?

Don't expect the wh to care. This helps with their goal of destabilizing the USA and adds to the chaos.

Is there any accountability? Who is auditing this nightmare? Eloon with a pencil on the back of an envelope?

Wouldn't be surprised if half the money was being siphoned off into X, Space-X, CybertruKKKs, and MAL.

You can’t legislate the expenditure of trillions of dollars if the Trifecta won’t spend the money as the law requires. You can’t negotiate with yourself which is the standard Trumpian move.
Why support a budget that is meaningless? No one spends money like that.

And this is simple economics that the average American will understand.
