Two people close to the White House previously told The Post that Trump was not willing to support Machado because she accepted the Peace Prize. “If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one of the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive situation.

Machado told Hannity she believed that if elections were held, she would win the presidency in a landslide.

3. The headline does not really match the body of the post

What the unnamed staffer said is neither Trump saying he'd agree to meet with her now, nor to accept the prize from her now. The assertion is "past tense".

And unless Trump was the number 2 vote getter (which is entirely unknown) it was not even in her power to "give it to him", at least not officially. I suppose she could hand him the plaque or trophy or whatever they get, but it would not be officially recognized by the Committee, it would still have her name on it, etc. He doesn't care about that, he wants his name in the history books, not a meaningless trinket.

And on top of that Trump doesn't have the power to declare her to be the President of Venezuela.

The whole idea is preposterous to the point that I consider it just another gaslighting, especially towards Machado herself

On Friday, the United States and Venezuela took halting first steps toward a resumption of diplomacy. A delegation of Venezuelan diplomats is expected to arrive in Washington in the coming days, according to a statement by the Venezuelan government. And on Friday, diplomatic and security staff from the U.S. Venezuela Affairs Unit — including John McNamara, the interim chargé d’affaires — traveled to Caracas, according to a U.S. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss personnel movements in a fluid security environment.

The Venezuelan delegation and U.S. diplomats will discuss how the diplomatic missions in both countries can be reestablished after “the aggression and the kidnapping of the President of the Republic and the First Lady,” the Venezuelan government said in a statement, referring to the capture by the U.S. of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores.

It is unclear whether the newly sworn in interim President Delcy Rodríguez would be part of the Venezuelan delegation arriving in D.C.

The White House Friday morning did not provide details about Machado’s trip or specify what issues she and Trump would discuss.

In an interview with Hannity this week in which she heaped praise on Trump, Machado said she had not spoken to the U.S. president since October, when she was announced as the latest Nobel laureate.

That doesn't make him a winner. It just shows him to be an even bigger loser. Machado doesn't decide who gets the prize, the Nobel committee does. Can the Nobel committee rescind a prize? I would think they are completely regretting their choice right about now. At least I hope they are.

But those weren’t his only provocative thoughts on the subject. A day earlier, the Republican sat down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, and the discussion turned to Machado. Trump said that he’d heard Machado — who’s eager to lead her home country and who’s taken steps to curry favor with the Republican administration — wants to give him the prize, and that it would be “a great honor.”

It was at that point that the officials responsible for the award apparently felt the need to issue a clarification of sorts. The Associated Press reported:

The organization that oversees the Nobel Peace Prize is throwing cold water on talk of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado giving her recent award to President Donald Trump.

Once the Nobel Peace Prize is announced, it can’t be revoked, transferred or shared with others, the Norwegian Nobel Institute said in a short statement on Friday.

“The decision is final and stands for all time,” the institute explained in a written statement.

It was, as best as I can tell, the first time in the 125-year history of the award that the Nobel Prize committee found it necessary to issue such a clarification.
