(40,114 posts)Love it. The Neanderthals will get so outraged and befuddled in their caucus that the next speaker will be Leader Jeffries.
Have fun Jamie.
Madame Speaker Cheney? Oh the lunatic angst.

(223,395 posts)I was hoping for Jeffries when he got votes during the 15th vote for McCarthy. And he did get more votes than Jordan this time around. I also think Raskin is suggesting anyone but Jordan.

(7,530 posts)I looked him up. He's been around a while.
I don't think he would be anti-science or anti-fact. I'm not sure where he was on insurrection stance.
He's from a district that includes suburbs of both Louisville and Cincinnati. He's s not a dummy from looking at his education and background.
But where was he on the insurrection?
I'm too lazy to figure it out. I admit. Haha.
Victoria can be a total bizarro, but maybe once she's right about something.

(223,395 posts)Which does not bode well for vote #2. And I have to agree that just about anyone would be better, anyone who doesn't take orders from TFG.

(223,395 posts)Bennie Thompson, chairman of that committee, would be a good choice, but he'd be disqualified by Republicans for the same reason. Hakeem Jeffries would be the best. And, so far, Jeffries has more support than Jordan.

(223,395 posts)We know that he won't be getting any Democratic votes and numerous Republicans voted for anyone else. That needs to continue. And Hakeem Jeffries got more votes than Jordan did.

(2,037 posts)I have to say that Romney would be my preference, all things considered.
Rhiannon12866
(223,395 posts)Romney isn't running for reelection after the threats he's witnessed by fellow Republicans. He's said he wanted to vote in favor of the second TFG impeachment, but warned by follow Republicans that he'd be putting himself and his family in danger. And, of course, Liz Cheney as voted out by fellow Republicans after serving on the January 6th Committee.
Abolishinist
(2,037 posts)if all 200 Dems voted for him. And the fact that he isn't running fore reelection is a plus, i.e., he's in it for two years and out, no further political ambitions. Regardless of what one thinks of him, he's not an election denier, and IMO puts our country above his personal ambitions. Time to get back to the business of running our country.
Rhiannon12866
(223,395 posts)And he has alienated his fellow Republicans by calling them out.

(2,037 posts)One does not have to be in the House to be the Speaker, so my initial thought is that a Senator could fill that position. And if one of my faves, Mr. Raskin, put it out there, then regardless of whether or not he was being forthright, he must have known that this could be possible. And if we only need seven to turn the tide, I would have to think they're out there! And OMG, talk about taking it to the reich-wing Repukes!
Rhiannon12866
(223,395 posts)And we've already heard that the wives of Republicans who did not vote for Jordan have received threats - which is what Romney was warned about. But I agree he'd be better than Jordan. And I'm not sure if Jamie Raskin was completely serious. However, I agree with you that he's among our very best.
