Which way do you draw an "X"?

Has someone actually studied this?

Starting from the bottom would feel very awkward to me.

eta - maybe 8 sometimes. If the "x" is part of a word, and preceded by a letter, then I would start from the upper left because that would be the closest point to where the previous letter ended. If making a single "x" to cross something out, it might be the upper left. My handwriting is a mix of cursive and printing.

Using 6 for lower case and 8 for upper case, as I do, the pen is perfectly positioned for the next letter to be written. How can having to traverse the entire letter again with 7 possibly be “correct“?
