Cat Leads People to Her Kittens the Night Before Hurricane Milton

The night before Hurricane Milton made landfall, Nikki, the VP of A Better Life-Pet Rescue, received a call about a mother cat and her kittens desperately needing help.

The cat reportedly had been left behind for weeks after her family moved away, and she had recently given birth on the porch. With the hurricane barreling towards the area, Nikki and her team knew they had to act fast to save the feline family.

"When I arrived at the location, I got out of the truck and started walking towards the house. She came running from down the street to me, meowing," Nikki shared with Love Meow.

Through the long night of howling winds, torrential rain, and power outages, they lay safe and dry indoors with warm beds and full bellies.

"Those kittens would not have survived the hurricane. We sheltered over 30 animals in our home during the storm."

Thanks to Nikki at A Better Life-Pet Rescue, all’s well that ends well for this delightful feline family of eight.

a walk before the storm hit (it was supposed to hit 20 miles south of Halifax). When the rain drops started to sting i went home. My cat met me at the door really upset and tried to lure me into the coat closet. When I closed the double window the cat relaxed. Cats know. My cat was 4 or 5 and had never been in a hurricane before.

Cats get a bad rap for not being like those dopey dogs ..kidding, but as a card carrying childless catlady 😸 I have long felt that the kitties are much maligned. They are actually very sweet..

My son realized that neighbors on his street had moved and left behind their half-grown cat. We wound up taking him; he is the SWEETEST boy on the planet. I won't even say what I'd like to do to people who abandon animals...

Well of course there are people who abandon their pets so I guess some jerks did abandon her.

I have casually fed strays it would be next to impossible to catch..very wary of humans..but yeah this cat is not like that. She seems friendly.

As I was reading this thread I realized that I am so inundated with news stories and email alerts about the horrors factory farmed animals suffer (with new horrors emerging like ventilation shutdown), that I have kind of forgotten about human unkindness that even pets suffer from. As much as I love the kittehs, I am used to thinking of cats and dogs as relatively lucky as far as the animal kingdom goes. But yeah they have it rough too when they get abandoned etc. It is against the law though. Pets have some legal protections unlike factory farmed animals like chickens and a lot of poultry.

If you feed it, trap and fix it.

There are plenty of pet owners who never bother to neuter their pets, let them outside, and then complain that they can't afford to have them all neutered.

And take them to the shelter since I am at my kitty limit now.
It is easy with kittens. I have not had much success with adults you cannot get close to (usually feral toms).

But i have left food (not regularly) but on the rare occasions I see an exceptionally lean and hungry looking unfriendly feral.

Yes, feral toms can be tricky. We have done it 3 times... turned out one wasn't feral in the least, just a little shy. Once the cage closed, he had a confused look on his face that said, "What happened? I was being a good boy!" We did end up adopting him after getting him neutered.

They did get some fluids in me... I was extremely dehydrated. But it looks like I go to the big city hospital tomorrow.... AFTER i vote!!! This one will admit me for at least through the weekend, until they can understand what and where the trouble is coming from. I think I just need my esophagus widened again (it's been like 20 years since it was last done) but they'll have to do a full workup, get time with the correct specialist, and then schedule the procedure. Maybe then I'll be able to eat again. (sigh) I'd loved to have a kitten visit while I was at the ER! would have done my attitude good, if nothing else!

She knows I'll spend way too much time with the kitty than her.
(My wife's right).

Sigh.

I'll go back to Franz Schubert's Death and the Maiden and my white wine now.

And like Niyad wrote, a pox on those cruel miscreants who abandoned this mommy and her litter.
