Upcoming Houston Gem & Mineral Show coming up.

Not sure if this should go here. It’s just a cheap fun thing to go or bring your kids to. But it’s also science, a learning opportunity about a lot of things. Want to learn how to make jewelry, learn about geology, fossils, archaeology, cut and polish rocks? If the guy is still there you can learn how to recycle old computer parts yourself. So it’s kind of a widespread learning opportunity.

The show is put on by the Houston gem & Mineral Society.

It’s going to be held at the Humble Civic Center. At 8223 Will Clayton Parkway, Humble Texas 77338. Near Bush international airport.

November 8-10 Friday & Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm. Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. Costs $12 for adults and teenagers. Kids 10 and under are free. The ticket can be used all 3 days. So you can go back without having to pay again.

There will be over 40 dealers there.

But a lot of free things to do. Friday as in other years there will be an earth science kids program. It’s free for the kids to do.

Do you have a rock, fossil, arrowhead, or gem stone even if mounted you want to find more information about? There’s people who will help you for free. I had a button I didn’t know anything about. It turned up to have a moldavite. Which is glass made from a meteor striking sand around Germany long ago. I had a ring from my family we weren’t sure whether it was ruby or garnet. It turned out to be a man made ruby made around 1940-1950.

There’s a trade and swap area. You can see people making jewelry and cutting/polishing stones there. Rocks, fossils, artifacts exhibits. Free giveaways daily.

Really it’s a lot of fun especially for kids. The have what is called a dino dig where young kids can hunt for fossils. Saturday they have a program if you have a scout working on their geology science badge.

They do a lot during the year including going to schools and having free presentations for them.

I will be going there just not sure what day. If you do go and want to buy something from the dealers take your time and walk the whole dealer area. You may find better deals by comparing prices. I probably won’t be buying much unless I see something for a Christmas present.
