Who else has no Christmas/holiday spirit this year?

I mean, technically, my family and I will still be celebrating, but none of us feel it. We all know why we have no spirit, and it’s not because we’re getting older and have a small family, either.

I mean, we still bought stuff for one another and I’ve got stuff for some of my friends and girlfriend, but I’m not excited. My birthday is in late October, and I’d say from the time of my birthday until New Years is one of, if not my favorite time of the year.

Not this year. I’ll still buy for Toys for Tots in addition to taking care of my family with that stuff, but if I’m not a total Scrooge, if I’m not bah humbug, I’m probably not far off from that stage.

That’s as far as I’m gonna go. I won’t be spending the day with her. But it’s better than nothing.

But I often do the gift thing with close peeps. Not into it this year and I'm too broke anyway so I'm ot going to agonized about it. I'm busy trying to leave the magat state I live in since it became 100% magat on Tuesday. My chances of survival are lowering here, best to relocate and then fight from there.

I found a Walmart bible my sister had given me a few years ago. I checked it for anything inside I might want to keep, and overnight, election night, it went in the trash bin. City trash picked it up the next day. I forgot about the thing until then, and my MAGA sister insisted "God" would take care of things on a text chain with the rest of the MAGAt relatives (which I typically avoid but stay there to give the appearance that I care)

I've never been religious because it had been crammed down my throat as a kid, and it's disgustingly sociopathic, misogynistic, and I just can't with that shit.

So anyway... I will enjoy time off work over the holiday to declutter and do yard work, but wtf would I celebrate and WHY?

I like the decorations and have been known to drag some of those out some years to make the house feel warmer and more festive but it's not about "spirit" or religion with me - it's just about a cozy atmosphere. But this is one of those years that I will not be bothering.

Not in the fucking mood.

time because like my sister said, we might as well enjoy what little time we have left, because come January life as we know it is over. I guess it's our Irish roots saying have a wake in honor of the good times you had with the deceased.

It has also been unseasonably, eerily warm where I live, so that November feels like early September. Somehow the looming climate apocalypse just doesn’t move me to shell out for tinsel, ornaments and Bing Crosby music. Or anything else, for that matter.

I realized my husband and I feel the same way. Then he put Christmas back in my heart. He wants to do 12 days of random acts of kindness. We’ve been brainstorming for the last hour. Here’s our list so far

City Hall - these ladies are very sweet
Admin staff at granddaughter’s school
Library staff
Gift cards for Walmart, and Grubhub drivers

In my area the police, firefighters, etc are always gifted. Post Office and nursing homes too.

Any other ideas? We want to gift people we interact with throughout the year.

We usually donate to a food pantry, Salvation Army - big organizations. Thinking smaller this year.

Thanks for doing random acts of kindness. It makes someone’s day, I’m sure.

Never know, especially at my age, this easily could be my last winter holiday, so I plan to enjoy. Gifts to or from have always been optional. I love to gift , even just remembrances or "gag" presents.

Not going to give away my joy because of jerks.
