If I had my way, the job of harvesting fruits and vegetables would pay a worker fairly so we could all eat better, fresher foods.
If I were younger I would grow some myself (I did try and it was an abysmal failure). I would also makes pots of vegetable soup that I used to make. Alas, I can no longer stand on my feet in the kitchen for more than a half hour due to arthritis in my lower back.
OTOH, I notice asparagus is on sale at just 99 cents per pound. So that's good!

(121,224 posts)A green pepper will cost $3 if you can find one at all. The reason we have cheap-ish produce in the first place now is because immigrant workers get low wages and no benefits.

(121,224 posts)But if a lot of people, including mass prepared food producers, want green peppers, they'll have to be farmed like all other produce. And without enough people to plant, harvest and ship them, they will be either prohibitively expensive or nonexistent for anyone who doesn't have their own garden.

His son works for an accident clean-up outfit and they cleaned up a semi wreck that involved produced.
So, I got 4 red & 4 orange. $16 worth the peppers for free.

(3,049 posts)Here was 3.99. But a banana pepper was only 48 cents and I could use themalmoat every place I would use sweet peppers. They turned out to be really good stuffed.
