Kind of a bust. I imagined that countries would keep their international broadcasts going out of inertia and national pride. Nope. Not much out there.

It's all tools in a toolbox. Not all the tools will be useful, but some of them might be.

(106,585 posts)broadcasts predominate. I still have a small sony portable I used to travel with years ago and intend to keep--just in case. There are still amateurs who relay the signals and broadcast out there.
The key benefit is those transmissions cannot be readily blocked. So, as more governments fall to authoritarianism there may be some resurgence.

(30,368 posts)When I was a kid my older brother was into shortwave. We had a wire strung outside our upstairs bedroom window and attached it to a pole out by the alley. We listened to radio stations all over the world, but our biggest thrill was listening in on ham operators.
