Brief report from my Supermarket shopping trip.

Didn't even bother to look at the bell peppers. I bought ONE cucumber. It was $1.27.

I serve a lot of raw veggies for hubs and me. I feel it keeps us going. We eat them peeled and sliced into rounds, with a little black pepper.

Today we'll have cucumber and some washed radishes with their roots cut off.

I did better with the fruit and the bakery items. But that's enough excitement for you for one day. And I have to go lie down.

Did a totally unhealthy thing and bought most of the stuff needed for my holiday baking. Lots was on sale. Dozen large eggs $4.49.

Eggs are much cheaper here. (Exurbs on Chicago)
The store brand eggs at Walmart are $2.16 per dozen.
They have larger packages of 18, 24, 36, and 60, with the per dozen prices ticking down a cent or 2 as package size goes up. The brand names are, of course, higher.
They are much more at Jewell-Osco (the Midwest name for Albertsons), but still not as high as near you.

Eggs and butter are the main costly items. I have canisters which will hold 10 # of sugar and flour so I can use Costco for the sugar.

We are lucky to have Winco, Aldi, Sprouts and Costco nearby.

one pepper, one tomato, and when it comes to eggs I am the luckiest person. My neighbor has the cutest flock of chickens; my eggs are free.
It takes me a Long long time to go thru a dozen. It has been at least a couple of months but the eggs are great every time.
I have elevated cholesterol and so I try to stay away.
But I do love the veggies when I cook; I buy small amounts because I rarely cook. Today I am going on a shopping spree myself!

All the prep work is done and all you have to do is zap them briefly, add butter or whatever, and serve. No chopping or scraping and just enough for the two of us. It's perfect!
