Today would have been Jim's 81st birthday.
I make no secret that Oliver Stone's 1991 film did a terrible job with portrayal of Jim's actual personality. It is true that he had addictions but he despised heroin and wouldn't touch the stuff.
His closest friends stated that he was a kind man. Someone had came into an establishment with a box of spoon rings and Jim purchased the entire box and gave them away to various people.
An untrained baritone that could sing low E2 all the way to high B flat 5 and M3.

(35,988 posts)I sometimes imagine what these artists Joplin, Hendrix, and Morrison wouldve been like and what their music wouldve been like if they had grown to artistic maturity. I think it wouldve been profound.

(24,280 posts)That's where I first appreciated his poetry. Before then I just loved the music.

Everyone has seen the image of the drunken clown. We need the positive image.
Oliver Stone seemed determined to show only the drunken jerk. There was only one short scene which showed the other Morrison. He shows up for the birthday party of the daughter of Ray Manzarek and Dorothy Fujikawa. Dorothy answers the door.
Morrison: Hey! You cut your hair!
Fujikawa: Ray and I are trying to have another baby.
Morrison: Was your hair getting in the way?
The rest of Val Kilmers performance can be summed up by the critic who wrote: I couldnt wait for that bastard to die.

(5,490 posts)He sounded great, I was impressed.
He also sang the vocals in Top Secret!
And let's not forget his tour de force performance in MacGruber in his role as the aptly named Dieter Von Cunth

(9,782 posts)According to Babe Hill, one of Jim's closest friends during his adult life, Hill said Jim was never violent, never mean spirited, calling him generous, exuberant, saying he loved to laugh.
I guess the real Jim Morrison wouldn't have sold the movie. Unfortunately, I tell people all the positives about Jim when they attempt to smack him down with the movie myths.
I don't blame Val Kilmer at all. He did his job splendidly as he was instructed.
Val did the vocals so well that there wasn't any back tracking and Ray, Robbie and John couldn't tell the difference between Val and Jim singing.

(20,603 posts)and Jim Morrison and Marilyn Monroe were closer in age and had a child together, what do you think would have become of their offspring?
Niagara
(9,782 posts)If they had gotten together and had offspring...watch out world!
Their offspring would be highly intelligent and a good looking bunch with wavy hair!
