Yesterday, I got avocados at the IGA. They were supposed to be .88/each. I looked at the receipt when I got where I was going, and saw I was charged 1.50/each, they regular price. I returned to the store, a drive of a few miles, an extra trip, and got a refund.
Today, I checked my receipts after I got home. Aldi's charged me for 3 bags of almonds, but I only bought 2. I bought cornstarch at Family Dollar. The shelf tag said 1.00, but I was charged 2.55. I am going in town tomorrow and I'll stop at both places, Aldi's to get a refund, Family Dollar to return the product. It's a pain, for sure.
I also didn't notice that 2 of the gift cards I bought had an activation fee. I can't fix that, but if I get any other gift cards, I will read the fine print.
I'm trying to avoid shopping online, and it is a challenge, but I have most of the gifts I planned to get.

(9,346 posts)I probably wouldnt bother going back to the store unless it was a big error. Good for you though, they probably count on people not going back.

(59,811 posts)I just made a 2-hour round trip to buy phone charging cords. Bought a box with 3 of diffreent lengths suppoedly included.
The 6' cord was absolutely not in the box. I'm so angry I could spit.
Best to always check things before leaving the store.

(2,720 posts)the staff has not updated it. The reasons the staff is behind are myriad.
We now are forced to use computers to service ourselves.
We live what we accept.
We accepted self service gas stations in the 70's to keep prices down.
The cat is out of the bag.
Thank you for being alert and sharing.

On another note, since it's you, Marthe, and since you started a thread about grocery stores, I'll leave this here for you:
Tired of constantly being broke, and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his wife (with himself as the beneficiary), and arranging to have her killed.
A "friend of a friend" put him in touch with a nefarious underworld figure, who went by the name of "Artie." Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was $5,000.
The husband said he was willing to pay that amount, but that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's insurance money.
Artie insisted on being paid SOMETHING up front. The man opened up his wallet, displaying the single dollar bill that rested inside. Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, and reluctantly agreed to accept the dollar as down payment for the dirty deed.
A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Safeway grocery store. There, he surprised her in the produce department, and proceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands. As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath, and slumped on the floor, the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto the scene. Unwilling to leave any witnesses behind, Artie had no choice but to strangle the produce manager as well.
Next came the asst. manager and Artie choked him to death also.
Unknown to Artie, the entire proceedings were captured by hidden cameras and observed by the store's security guard, who immediately called the police.
Artie was caught and arrested before he could leave the store.
Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the sordid plan, including his financial arrangements with the hapless husband.
And that is why, the next day in the newspaper, the headline declared:
ARTIE CHOKES THREE FOR A DOLLAR AT SAFEWAY

(25,711 posts)and if anyone does have them, they're full of holes.
No great loss though, they were getting so tiny due to pocket shrinkage they could barely hold a quarter or even a tissue.
Which is unfortunate because most of us are mourning shrinkage & I often find my self crying when I laugh at your jokes.
Love ya!

(2,138 posts)I learned about that a few years ago. Since then, it's been cash for gifts.
We set up a passbook savings account at local bank with monthly deposit from our checking account -- yes, I know, passbook savings pays the absolutely lowest dividends, but the money is immediately available. Couple of weeks before Christmas I withdraw cash, buy some Christmasy envelopes at Dollar General, fill them with twenties, and stick them on the tree for daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons. They really do appreciate it.
Thanks for reminding me -- I'll go to the bank tomorrow.
