make pin curls Then I would brush them with a pick. How about you?

(96,353 posts)And to hold up my long hair I used fabric coated elastics and long tine combs like my grandmother used. I still use them, never used a hair dryer either.

I always tie my hair back with a Scunci, but that's it.

(36,552 posts)My hair is naturally curly and I spent so much time with rollers, irons, etc. trying to to straighten it.
Now I just wash and air-dry and my hair looks like Robert Plant’s. Lol

(279 posts)I have naturally curly hair, so I used scotch tape to tape down my bangs and then set my hair with these huge pink rollers held to each other with long bobby pins. It’s a wonder I ever got any sleep. It didn’t go exactly straight, but enough to have a flip only on the ends. Sealed the deal with a ton of Aqua Net hair spray. 😁. Fun to look back and laugh at myself!😁

(294 posts)No matter what I did, my hair never came out straight.
Nowadays my hair is still long. I wind it into a coil and use about eight bobby pins to attach it to the back of my head - it's heavy. For dress up I tie the hair off about an inch or a bit more from my scalp and when I pin it down I have a pompadour. It's still wavy, but I stopped caring if straight or wavy or curly hair was stylish some few decades ago.
If I cut it short, it would look like I'd stuck my finger into a light socket. Mom found that out the hard way when I was a kid.
I found out the hard way that my hair hates chemicals. No perms or dyes for me. Just as well, I save money wrestling the stuff into submission myself.
