will not happen. Tomorrow I turn 70. I can't believe the younger me is so far way. .

(11,265 posts)I first took it up at 45 and was lucky to ski 27 consecutive years. Then the Covid pandemic closed the mountain one year and I missed the next due to a medical procedure. After those couple of years off, and the time it takes to acclimate to skiing at 10,000 when living at sea level seemed like too much. Im still surfing and bike riding, but I do miss flying down a mountain and the powder .the moguls, not so much😁

(112,687 posts)In answer to your question and so as not to bum you out, I only wish I'd moved overseas earlier in my career when I had the chance (I didn't because my sister was never going to leave the US and it wasn't really possible for me to do so when my parents were still living). Boy, do I regret it now, but, maybe we can all get through it together--young at heart, all of us!

(454 posts)I have a twisted pelvis and there are many things I can't do, or do for very long. But I don't dwell on it, I just do the things I can do, visit with friends and family, read a good book, watch the birds go to roost as the sun sets, enjoy flowers, crochet, embroider, listen to music, savor a good meal, and many others.
As for the people I can no longer see and the things I can no longer do, I have a wealth of good memories to wander through.
I am never bored, and thanks to reading and going online, I learn new things all the time.

(75,769 posts)I would have liked for that due diligence trip to Egypt not be canceled so I could take a day to see the pyramids. (I actually took a day off in Mumbai to take a plane to Agra, just to see the Taj Mahal.)
Never seeing them now. But I've seen & done plenty, so not much else seems missing.
Oh, and Happy Birthday!

(54,160 posts)"go back". Not that I made really bad mistakes in my youth or things were comparatively better. It's just that I've improved with age. Wisdom, knowing more stuff, better judgment. No neuroses from family dysfunction. Independence and autonomy. Having a cadre of loyal friends. Developed skills such as cooking and baking.
I have my 50th HS Reunion coming up later this year. Waffling whether to go. It's not revisiting nostalgia. And most of us are completely different people than in HS. I just don't want to be reminded of bygone youth I suppose.

(55,011 posts)to this one. My father died that morning and I didn't go. It did't bother me in the least. To see the people as my school was very clichés

Sorry about your father. You made the right choice.

(1,070 posts)I regret not researching my ancestors when I was stationed in England in the 80s and again in the 90s. One of my aunts traced our family tree back to England in the late 1600s or early 1700s. It would have been interesting to visit the towns/villages and look them up in the local government/church records.
