The old man's ringtone was "Dixie"
Sitting in an ER waiting room today. Hanover County outside Richmond. I was there for a friend who had a reaction to a medicine they took for a test. Their blood pressure dropped.
The place was packed as apparently all the ER’s in Richmond are right now.
Someone’s phone rings and at first I couldn’t place the song then I got it. It was “Dixie”. I shot a look at my friend and we both cracked up - quietly. Pure Old Hanover.
My friend is okay. I got home 45 minutes ago.
So many stories from one day.
Their Cardiac CT was at 11:00 so they really hadn’t eaten anything the whole day. At 5:30 I said “You need something to eat”. Hamburger. I go to the cafeteria to find everything shut down. I see three people chatting near the cash register. “Is anyone on the grill” “I am”, says the guy in a black cooking outfit. “My friend is a patient here. They really want a hamburger” “The grill closes at 6:00” (Looking at watch) “it’s 5:30! “I have a lot of cleaning up to do”
My friend overheard a racist grandma.
There was the guy who brought an in-use barf bag in with him and his family who talked very loud about vomiting.
One of our GREAT nurses told us that a “Grandma” got a little crazy. A guy, not a member of her family, was standing outside the room staring in forking in a salad. The nurse asked him if they could help him. Forking in the salad he said, “This is my TV”.
