I've also been surprised by bears and pigs.
The scariest encounters I've had have been with humans.

(1,373 posts)I tried bow hunting deer with a friend but never saw a deer so zero kills. I've caught both fresh and sea water fish but I gave that up, too. It's easier to buy meat and fish from the store than to go out and hunt or fish for it.
I really don't have a problem with people who hunt and fish, except when the don't obey the laws and limits. Many people rely on hunting and fishing to put food on their table because it saves them money than buying at the store.

Only the males have those outsized jaws. Used for fighting other males for the ladies. I expect a lady Hercules beetle would find the guy in the pic mighty hot.

(2,624 posts)...after a close lightning strike. They were 4" by 3" with pincers on the front. Hubby nailed 3 of them but one hid and wasn't found until the next day.
