box. Have a wonderful day.

(22,749 posts)Had a number of those as a kid (would seem odd to play with them as an adult). Also recall having to climb trees fairly regularly to rescue that toy from being caught in branches after tossing it into the air.

(44,362 posts)toy.Had to get from neighbor's yard as houses were very close in the mill town.

I think you can still buy it. It wouldn't be the same, nothing ever is.

I loved a hot cereal in the morning and maple was one of my favorite flavors. My Mom would get it for me if it was on sale, it must have been more expensive than our little budget, but it was always a treat for me. That wonderful mapley warm goodness was perfect.

(18,482 posts)..loved frosted Flakes so thats what we had but i didnt enjoy them..too soggy. As a young adult who didnt have to worry about gaining weight i loved Captain Crunch and as I got older it was Shredded wheat with fruit and cream or Grapenuts with yogurt and fresh fruit. Now in my Sr years Im doing low carb and i miss cereal for breakfast.

(1,974 posts)Box of life? Cereal in 1978?. He ended up my favorite player and I actually got to meet him when I was driving a cab in Minneapolis MN and I took him to the HHH Metrodome for a game when he played for the Cleveland Indians in around 1995 or so when they were in town to play the Twins.
Another small miracle that made my life more complete.

(74 posts)i haven't seen a cereal prize in decades. maybe i just don't look close enough.
heck, some boxes had 16rpm plastic records on the back.
i think my favorite growing up was either king vitamin (no longer available, and the last time i saw them was > 30 years ago... was traumatized by the taste when i nostalgia bought a box) or captain crunch (peanut butter - still occasionally buy it but it is too sweet).
favorite toy? i remember these little microscopes. don't remember the cereal but it was kinda cool. it was a crap microscope but kinda qool. (a quick duckduckgo search says it was wheaties... we didn't eat a lot of wheaties growing up so it may not have been them).

(8,914 posts)I reckon we're better off without those millions of cheap plastic toys.

(74 posts)but nostalgia isn't rational.
the prizes were (mostly) crap but i oh so looked forward to digging to the bottom of the box to get my latest toy.

(125,742 posts)odd occasion where she would get a set of those tiny assorted cereal boxes. We all wanted the Fruit Loops but there was only one serving. I like Captain Crunch but it was too sweet for my mom to feed her kids. I had a great aunt who I admired. She never married. When she was ninety she admitted to having a box of Captain Crunch in her kitchen she would indulge in at times. It was so funny because she was so smart and active and signed up for group activities all over the city (i once ran into her at the Community College). She was so sophisticated and even she fell for the sway of the Captain Crunch.

(13,263 posts)But I tried some several years ago and they weren't the same. I also liked Sugar Smacks and had a strange belief that they were also used as electrical components because of one that was eternally stuck in one of the motor vents on a big green metal oscillating table fan that we only brought out in the summer. I had a craving for them recently and scoured the cereal aisle, discovering they are now called "Golden Crisps". I made the connection because they still have a bear mascot.

(434 posts)My parents had a large family and money was of course tight, so my mother made us eat puffed wheat cereal. It came in plastic bags and no amount of sugar made it tolerable. This was in the late 60's / early 70's. When things improved a little bit I was always the one who eschewed the sweet cereals in favor of Corn Flakes, Cheerios, Rice Krispies, Total and Wheaties. The only cereal my father would eat was Raisin Bran, so that tended to be available.
After I grew up I became quite fond of Frosted Mini Wheats. I can snack on them all night.
As I recall a lot of different brands had a toy in the box. My mother would be furious at whoever made a mess of the cereal box digging down to the bottom to get the piece of plastic trash!
