(1,331 posts)We only have HEB and Walmart. Central Market, Sprouts and Whole Foods, too but pfft.
HEB drove out all other grocery stores. Sigh.
I miss Kroger and Aldi.
Welcome back! 💕

(63,631 posts)I am in the Midwest - Super Valu gone in our area, Giant Foods, Benner Tea, the Big Bee, Eagles, Piggly-Wiggly, A&P and let's end up with Cub Food.
It as been interesting to watch the markets consolidate with two giants emerging and prices seemingly landing at a high level. Aldi's and Costco are the two new competitors in the area.

Jewel Osco and Meijer seem to dominate the Midwest.

(289 posts)I usually shop at a family owned grocery that has 4 or 5 stores in the area. They are very service friendly ( e.g. open another check stand if more than two people in line; bag and carry out your groceries; staff acknowledge you and ask if you need help finding anything. During Covid, they added extra early morning hours for seniors or health compromised people to have a time to shop with much fewer people in the store. I hope they are able to stay afloat.
