The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsCan any of you suggest to me some lesser-known film noires to me
and the rest of us loungers who are so inclined? Generally, maybe not those found on top 10 types of lists?
Bonus points if they are available on Prime or Tubi.

(4,055 posts)Bad Day at Black Rock is an odd one-- kind of noir, but also a western.
Another interesting kind of mashup is Lured, which is Lucille Ball in postwar London tracking a serial murderer.
In a Dark Place is kind of a classic noir-- set in LA, starring Bogart. There are a lot of intriguing "inside Hollywood" references.

(4,055 posts)The character has a calm temperament and a war injury (a disabled arm) that would seem to render him pretty harmless-- and yet he does manage to beat up some bad guys.

(1,091 posts)… is Dead Again, with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson.
It’s been a long time since I’ve watched it, but I remember it was very complex (lots of old mysteries to solve as Branagh is trying to solve an old murder and Thompson can’t remember what traumatized her) but it was complex and well done.

(30,211 posts)Nobody ever saw that one coming---Dick Powell, out-Bogey-ing Bogart with the best Marlowe job, ever.

(30,211 posts)"The Asphalt Jungle" (1950) is flawless, my favorite Noir flick. And "The Killing," (1956) an early Stanley Kubrick effort.

(5,677 posts)I’m actually interested in the lecture series found right there on home page as well. Just read an academic intro to a Foucault book two days ago, so I’m going to check out his series for sure.
Thanks so much!

Much appreciated!
Morbius
(434 posts)1949, Humphrey Bogart & Gloria Grahame. It isn't as well known as his other movies, but for my money it is Bogart's best performance. I saw it on Tubi; Tubi tends to rotate movies, so if it isn't there now it probably will be in a few months.
