The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm hurt and bummed out.
I had planned to go to my local hands off protest today. My sign is nothing special. Not like all of the really great ones DUers have been sharing. It's just this:
It's the same sign I've been carrying since the Moral Monday marches in Raleigh ten years ago.
Here's the thing. I fell. I am literally hurt. I'm having trouble walking. I'm going to cover myself with ice packs, take acetaminophen and maybe get my lidocaine patches and some medical tape together and patch myself up. Again, literally.
I hate to use the darn things though because they're so expensive.
Anyway, I'm really hurt. I'm thinking about driving myself to the emergency room and if the pain gets worse, I will try. Right now, I'm self evaluating and sad because I really, really wanted to join in today.
Thanks to everyone out there who is standing up for all of us who can't right now, for whatever reason. It means a lot.

(27,209 posts)Hand with my fingers in a weird position, my elbow which is also scraped up from the rocks on the ground and my hip/back on the same side is what's hurting the worst right now. I also landed on my knee on the same side but side ways so I just got scratches and scrapes there but not too bad.
Thanks for asking, dweller.

(1,091 posts)Is it an option to drive by the protest a time or two and honk and wave to support them?
Like maybe on the way to the ER, if you’re really in that bad a condition? It seems like having a medical emergency at a protest would not be helpful in general.

(10,515 posts)I'm joining you in the "feeling under the weather" category and I'm not attending todays "Hands Off" protest either.
I wish you a speedy recovery and I'm hoping that you can get checked out by a medical professional to make sure that you're alright.

(300 posts)You never know what kind of damage there could be on the inside and if it's nothing serious, you will be relieved. At least you'll know.
Please take care of yourself and I hope you feel better soon. ❤️
Edited to add: I slipped and fell back on my couch a few years ago and bent one of my fingers. I went to Urgent Care the next day and was told if I had not gone there as quickly as I did, my finger would've stayed permanently bent. Now you can't even tell which finger it was.

(1,978 posts)littlemissnartypants. Please, delaying any treatment for what could be a broken bone etc could make things much worse. I wish you well, I pray you are ok and recover quickly.
Please keep us posted.

We'll be there next time.

(7,691 posts)My back went off on Thursday. I felt sure it would be okay enough to do some walking and stuff by today. Wrong. It is still acting up and hurting. All I can do is sit or lay down.
Thanks to all those who are doing something. Something that will get attention. Something that will prove our displeasure and our willingness to straighten it out.

(91,465 posts)It sounds as if you banged yourself up pretty good in that fall. You really should get it checked out so you heal properly.
Let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it.

(1,084 posts). . . get checked out right away.
If you don’t want to call an ambulance, for a few bucks you can call Uber or Lyft. Most times they can be there in less than 10 minutes, even rural. If we lived closer, I would drive you to the hospital and stay with you as advocate to be sure they took good care of you.
Right now it’s time to focus on you. Please take care of you. And please bring us up to date on how you’re doing.
In the meantime, I’m with you in spirit, and all of us in your DU family will keep you updated on the Hands Off! protests. Plus you can stream the action when the timing is better for you.
We need you.
Much love and hugs.

(123,313 posts)taken lightly. Please take good care of yourself, my sister. Don't make me come get you!
Love your poster, and thank you.. One of the things I have noticed in posters, etc., that I have been seeing, is that none of them are saying, "Hands Off Women". Distressing omission.
Sending vibes for swift and complete healing and recovery.

(39,752 posts)I feel lucky I got home without falling. That was the only thing that made me hesitate to go. But I knew it’s close to home and the streets are very familiar. Still, every walk to the store now is a life and death adventure. Good luck hope you start feeling better real soon

(126 posts)Don't sell yourself short. Sure, it's great to be able to make it when you can, but you have to take care of yourself first. You can't pour from an empty bottle. Take refuge in the fact that we're not on our own. There are new people with fresh energy, spirit, and capability joining our ranks every day. Do them the kindness of letting them take your place, even if temporarily, and give them the encouragement they need.

(33,659 posts)I've got some wicked arthritis/bursitis going on. I went to a protest in February and was fine, but a snow shoveling experience kicked my butt. Now I'm doing PT, and eating ibuprofen like candy. I could probably get there okay, but getting home and walking the next day could be issues. Not worth the risk. It sucks missing out...it's such a feel-good when you really need it. Hope you feel better soon. There will be more, keep your sign handy!!

(8,397 posts)I saw a picture here that said "Things are so F***ed Up that even the introverts are here." Well I'm an introvert - but up to about 12 years ago I was still at protests. That last one I had to take a wheelchair to - I already couldn't stand long. No, it's not introversion that's keeping me home, It's arthritis and osteoporosis, Do get checked. I'm not all that good about that myself - so do as I say, not as I do.
