(145 posts)I remember that when I was in middle school, we were assigned to write a poem.
"Poems are all about sad things," I thought.
I said, okay, "I'l write a poem that describes the opening sequence of MASH."
I got an A.
And I giggled.

(39,594 posts)Sorta off topic, but Earle Hagen composed Harlem Nocturne, the quintessential Film Noir piece. I was gobsmacked it took decades before a TV program, Mike Hammer, used it.
My favorite cover of Harlem Nocturne is by Johnny Otis (René Blochs haunting, resinous Atlo Sax totally put it over the top)
Oh, I should hate the song because my son played it over and over and over again for his UCLA marching band chops/tryout recording. He finally nailed it and I got a UCLA marching ban hat.

(145 posts)I disliked the show, just my opinion.
Like my grandmother said, some people like beer, others champagne. That's just the way it is. (That is, if you disagree, it's okay. No need to debate).
But, that opening theme - brilliant.

(55,957 posts)Theme for The Outlanders. It is on Netflix. His wife sang the opening on the first seasons. It takes place in Scotland and he uses the pipes to add to the feeling. I was surprised he did The Walking Dead. YouTube might also have it.The most beautiful is the opening.
Niagara

(172 posts)A great theme song incorporating cool jazz and an absolutely rocking studio orchestra. Hats off to the ladies and gentlemen in the first violin section for the first 15-20 seconds.

(24,775 posts)Recording technology in the 1960s was not as sophisticated as today and the recording was probably made live meaning a studio orchestra actually played the music!
That chart is one of my all-time favorites!

(55,957 posts)by the group The Vogues My uncle Chuck B was in that group. Five O'Clock world and Turn Around Look at Me were hits for them. I can offer you more information but through DUMail. He was my father's youngest brother.

(540 posts)I thought The Vogues were great and Five OClock World is still one of my all-time favorite tunes. I sing it often around the house, much to my wifes annoyance. Emma Peel and John Steed were great together in The Avengers. I was saddened when Diana Rigg passed away in 2020.

(1,887 posts)It features Mic Jagger, but is composed by Brian Premerton, who also does the ambient sound stuff for the show. I really enjoy the show. Piss off my family by not letting them skip the introduction when we watched and rewatched episodes.

(10,231 posts)Well, I always liked Mike Post's stuff. Things like The Rockford Files, and Hill St. Blues. But my favorite of his was a theme that also made it to number two on the pop charts at the time.
But, I also like the theme to Airwolf, as well as Good Times, M.A.S.H., etc.
I am a musican, so I like many of them.
I really liked this one too.
Sorry, I just cannot name one... or 'just a few' for that matter!
