When referring to discreet objects, English requires the use of "fewer" in statements of comparison. You would not say the glass has FEWER water in it!
I cringe when newscasters can not make the correct choice.

(33,094 posts)Here's another: awesome. Seldom are the things or people described as awesome actually "awesome."
Niagra Falls are awesome. The Taj Mahal is awesome. Maybe even FDR or Winston Churchill were awesome. Your kid's little league team and your favorite sister may be good or great or nice, but the word awesome should be saved for bigger things.

(77,306 posts)When I went to our Ontario site, I'd occasionally fly into Buffalo and drive around the lake.
On Fridays to get home, I'd leave early enough to get dinner at Table On The Rock so I could sut and eat within a 100' of the horseshoe.
Then one time in Mumbai, I took a day off, went to the airport, flew to Agra, to see the Taj for a few hours.
We agree on the awesomeness of those 2, but it's sure a coincidence that you picked those 2 where I specifically went out of my to experience them in person.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
