And... I loved the band, AMERICA. That said, I admit that was not their finest moment. LOL

It's a silly song but fun happy upbeat and fits the musical/movie. Many song from musicals can sound odd when they become hits out of context.

The first day we were looking to the NCOs What do we do? Attention? Parade rest? They said stand at ease.
The second day we were ALL like What IS this crap? Even the country music guys hated it. Theyd never heard of Lee Greenwood. One of the older guys (Louisiana) said he remembered it from the YEARS AGO when it was released and that he and his buddies hated it then.
The third day we were told we could leave since wed been dismissed. We got looks for walking around while other units were still in formation. Well, at least we got to chow first.

(3,761 posts)The version of Billy Don't be a Hero that became a No. 1 hit in the U.S. was a cover of Paper Lace's original, which was a hit in the UK.
displacedvermoter
(4,457 posts)people who brought both of the Paper Lace songs to America, also did a viciously bad version of Paul Simon's Kodachrome on American Bandstand. They even mumbled over the line about "the crap I learned in highschool", apparently touring with Osmond Brothers means you both suck musically, and are prudes as well.
