Every time one of our dogs has passed within 6 week we adopt another one. The missing of the previous dog never goes away but the joy the new dog brings makes life enjoyable again.
Dogs are amazing.

(29,858 posts)3. I've had cats pretty much all my life...
starting at age 5.
When Ive lost one, I seldom wait very long before adopting a successor. It gives the love that is still there a place to attach. It doesnt feel disloyal. Theres always someone who needs a home.

...who nourish my spirit in many, many ways.
I like dogs, but am too lazy to own one.

Another one has just showed up--not to take their place, that's not possible--but to help fill the void, and ease the heartache. Its like they know their time in my life has come.
