Lt. Colonel Steve Canyon, USAF, remarks on his new Native American Sergeant

Last edited Wed May 27, 2026, 05:03 PM - Edit history (1)

From the fictional 1950's black and white series.

"Featherstone?"

"It's always a pleasure to do business with 100% Americans."

At 4:30.

Pure class, and certainly not what you'd expect from a 1950's series.

When America ruled the sky with slide rules, Chesterfields, and Black Label beer.

Not really a kids TV show.

One episode was about heroin smuggling at Kadena AFB in Okinawa!

And a correction - Convair was not a sponsor, but...

"While Convair did not finance the program, the company had a major behind-the-scenes presence:
Hardware & Footage: Convair provided the U.S. Air Force and Pegasus Productions with authentic equipment, mock-ups, and film footage.
Featured Aircraft: The series heavily featured Convair's cutting-edge jets, most notably the Convair F-102 Delta Dagger and F-106 Delta Dart.
Storylines: The very first episode, "Operation Towline," centered on an experimental mission to develop an anti-missile system using Convair F-102 fighters. "

Glad you enjoyed!

Thanks, that's cool!

"Jerry Paris: Played Major "Willie" Williston on Steve Canyon and went on to be a prominent director and star as the neighbor, Jerry Helper, on The Dick Van Dyke Show."

That was in the 50s and 60s. I was in a Cleveland suburb that was virtually all white. We got a lot of messages in our school to get along with others. It seems theoretical, because the only black person I ever met was a black nurse who came to the house to give my great aunt a Vitamin B shot. We all liked her and I've never forgotten her.

I've heard stories about famous actors insisting on having black singers, dancers and actors in their movies. Individuals will try to celebrate diversity, institutions not so much.

Thank you for the positive post.

You are absolutely correct, and there were a number of celebrities who risked their careers to stand up for decency.

Thank you for your post!
