Am I the only one who hates blood pressure machines?

they are quite painful. My former primary care doc kindly understood and took it himself, which doesn't hurt.

I'm an old lady and I feel pain more acutely now.

Also, wouldn't pain RAISE my b.p. even MORE?

I don't know if that would help, but worth a try maybe.

Those blood pressure machines hurt like hell and I hate them. I much prefer the manual ones that the medical assistants pump up themselves.

Every time I go to the doctor, my blood pressure is slightly higher than the doctor would like because I'm so apprehensive and nervous, so they always take it again at the end of my appointment. So I have to have to go through it twice! Once they did it three times and got three different numbers. They couldn't get it down to where they wanted it to be so they just took the lowest reading. Once the doctor scared me so much during my appointment that it was actually 10 points HIGHER at the end.

40 to 60 mm higher than the actual pressure. Don't know about pain as an elevator but being cold, not having arm supported at level of heart, crossed legs, having a full bladder, and, of course, worrying about having high blood pressure, will tend to raise it. (Not a physician but Google can be useful if you stick to credible sites like Mayo or Cleveland (CT Scan tech told me everything on WebMD is cancer - I don't think he was joking)).

instead of the machine. And yes, the auto ones can hurt like hell and I can't believe that doesn't raise bp.

I've had some tremendously high readings because of the intense pain I was experiencing from the machine. I avoid them at all costs now.
