Any other coin collectors around?
Do you know any good Coin chat sites or Facebook pages. I pulled my coin collection out of storage, and am regrading everything and trying to figure out what everything is worth with an eye to selling it.
Went to a supposedly reputable coin shop with some of my best coins, and he gave me all of 60 seconds. Said all my coins had been cleaned, which they have not ( one my Grandmother gave me at age 6...that was 1958, nobody cleaned coins!) I look at these coins in NCGS plastic labeled MS 61 or 62 and they are shit next to mine.
Anyway, this guy basically offered me a couple buck over melt value. Now I don't know if I'm nuts or he's a crook.

(56,736 posts)People have cleaned coins for over a century. I was once shown a collection of silver type coins sold by B. Max Mehl in the 1930s, and they were all cleaned. I have even seen a collection of ancient Roman gold coins in great condition, but all cleaned a century ago. Almost no wear, but someone cleaned away a few hundred thousand dollars in future vale from this deal, and probably a century or two ago. And did you mean PCGS or NGC? They are two different services.
