The detail is just amazing.

It is a good thing that David is in Italy rather than Texas or Florida; (or any number of other red states) they would have him destroyed as porn.

7. When you walk into the rotunda and see the statue, it's like being in a cathedral. There's almost complete silence

It's truly impressive & much larger than the thousands of other statues I've seen in museums throughout Italy. The scale really takes you back.

nearby statue of David standing on the severed head of Goliath, that it dawned on me who THIS David was supposed to be.
I mean, this David is just standing there with a towel over his shoulder. He doesn't seem like the guy who just knocked out their champion with a rock in a shepherd's sling.

And, now from this video, I learn that this is David BEFORE he decided to do battle with the giant.
