What forensic testing reveals about revolver in on-set 'Rust' shooting

The gun used in the fatal shooting on the "Rust" movie set could not have been fired without pulling the trigger, according to an FBI forensic report obtained Friday by ABC News.

With the hammer in the quarter- and half-cock positions, the gun "could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger," the report stated.

With the hammer fully cocked, the gun "could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger while the working internal components were intact and functional," the report stated.

With the hammer de-cocked on a loaded chamber, the gun was able to detonate a primer "without a pull of the trigger when the hammer was struck directly," which is normal for this type of revolver, the report stated.

Do handguns have that kind of safety?
I guess not, as toddlers have managed to shoot guns.
About a mile from me, a toddler picked up his dad's loaded gun (on the coffee table!) and shot his brother.

Not sure what that means? If something hit the hammer, it could "detonate"-- does that mean that it could shoot the bullet?

seem to clear Alec Baldwin?

Is that what this means?

Not on it's own, anyway.

Baldwin said he didn't pull the trigger.

Investigators determined that the the pistol wouldn't fire without the trigger being pulled in 3 out of 4 potential hammer positions, but that it might fire without the the trigger beiing pulled in the 4th position ("decocked" ).

in the gun at all, right? And Baldwin didn't make the mistake of putting it there. There was an inexperienced armorer if I recall correctly.
