On December 8, 1925, singer, dancer, actor Sammy Davis Jr. was born.

I read about the occasion yesterday on another site too.

Singer, dancer, actor, Sammy Davis Jr. was #BornOnThisDay, Dec. 8, 1925. Davis once said,"My talent was the weapon, the power, the way for me to fight. It was the one way I might hope to affect a man's thinking." A smoker, he passed in 1990 (age 64) from #cancer #RIP #GoneTooSoon

On February 19th, 1962, Sammy appeared on ABC's "The Rifleman." The name of the episode was "Two Ounces of Tin ." Sammy plays Tip Corey, a ruthless killer. He's told to ride out of town, but he refuses and delivers an ultimatum to the Marshal: "take his badge off and throw it into the dirt by sundown or he'll kill him." Sammy got to show off his magnificent gun handling skills.

He showed up "his magnificent gun handling skills" in a movie too. I've posted that clip before. I'll find it.

By this point in life, Johnny Crawford probably had his learner's permit.

That episode was definitely a demonstrating of Sammy's magnificent gun-handling skills.

Through the early 60's, Davis had been a regular featured performer at the big Las Vegas venues, but was denied accomodations there because of his race. Fellow Rat-Packer Frank Sinatra for one was furious over this, and brought in and paid for onsite mobile setups for Davis. It wasn't until Civil Rights legislation was passed that black entertainers were afforded the same basic rights that their fans enjoyed. I suppose those who fought for and secured civil and voting rights for those previously denied would be regarded as being "woke".
