about thirty five years ago in New York. (I also met Eva Marie Saint in L.A. about the same time). He was one of the great directors of the time.

... that he also became known as one of the most famous informants for HUAC (the Mother of all Cancel Cutlure, if you really get right down to it).

But I'm more inclined to condemn the sick, farcical backdrop that put artists like Kazan in that position to begin with.

I didn't know about his HUAC testimony at the time that I met him. It is definitely a stain on his legacy. I was simply in awe of his reputation as a director. Ironically, we came into contact because he came by to support the Directors Guild during some very difficult labor negotiations with the three major broadcast networks. "On The Waterfront" definitely did not portray unions in a favorable light.
